Year 4 are hard at work building lego cities this morning. They'll be building electrical circuits later on to light them up!

Hello all and welcome to Year 4D! I am Miss Davenport, the class teacher, and along with me I have Mrs Smith and Mrs Cooney to complete the Year 4D team. It’s the start of a new term and there is lots of learning ahead. Are you all ready?

Who put the 'great' into Greater Manchester?

    What will I learn today?

There is so much to learn this term Year 4D! Our overall theme requires us to put our geographer hats on and research our county and how it has developed into the amazing place that it is today.  In maths, we will be focusing on fractions and decimals and in English we will be creating a dream holiday destination and persuading people to come and visit it! In outdoor P.E, it’s all about team work as we work together to read maps when we are orienteering around the school grounds. Science is going to be great and is massively hands on; we are learning all about sound, how it is made and how it travels. We are even going to get to make our own ear muffs to see how we can protect our ears against high volumes!

     Spring term 1 key questions...

English: Can I write a persuasive leaflet?

Maths: When is a whole, not a whole?

Design technology: Can I create my own animation using computer software?

RE: Can I find evidence of trust and betrayal in the Easter story and reflect on how it makes me feel?

Things to remember in Year 4

In Year 4 we will do P.E. on Mondays and Thursdays. We do ask that you leave indoor P.E. kits in school and we will ensure that they are sent home each half-term to be washed. This half term we will be doing gymnastics (Mondays) and football (Thursdays). Please remember that this year we have an outdoor P.E. kit. (black tracksuit pants or leggings, white polo top or t-shirt, plain black hooded top and trainers), which you will require on Thursdays.  This can be taken home each week for washing.

In Year 4 your homework will involve:

    • Daily reading
    • Weekly Spellings (given on Tuesdays; two lots of practise needed in prep books each week)
    • Times Tables Rockstars
    • English homework
    • Maths homework
    • Project homework
    • Recorder practise

    Reading Books

Our reading books will be changed on a Friday. You should bring your planners and reading books to school everyday. Please also read for at least 5 minutes every night and sign your planner to show that you have done this, stating the pages that you have read.  This year we are also lucky to have access to the 'Bug Club'. You can use your individual login to access reading books online.

Year 4 weekly spelling tests are administrated on a Tuesday.
