Welcome to St. Philip’s Primary

Curriculum Statement

At St Philip’s CE Primary School, it is our underlying belief that every child should feel valued and experience the feeling of success in a wide range of curriculum areas. Our broad and balanced school curriculum helps our children to grow emotionally, socially, morally and spiritually as individuals. Our curriculum is highly aspirational and engaging. The breadth of challenges that are built in to our school curriculum enable our children to become independent learners.

Underpinning our whole-school curriculum is our commitment and drive to both our key school values and British values. We have created a positive and successful community of learners that values the whole child. Indeed, at St. Philip’s CE Primary School we place the highest priority on ensuring children’s physical and mental wellbeing are fully met. We understand that children will not be successful learners unless they are emotionally secure. Therefore we carefully design our curriculum and adopt a flexible approach to timetabling to ensure that we can meet and respond to any issues which may arise. Children’s physical and mental wellbeing are also as valued and important as academic development. Our well planned and thoughtful approach to SMSC helps us to ensure that every child is well cared for and fully supported.

Our balanced approach to the curriculum and pursuit of high standards enables our children to reach national expectations and above in the core subjects. Due to our careful curriculum design, we have ensured that we have successfully built in many opportunities for repetition and the practise of key knowledge, skills and understanding for every subject. It is our whole-hearted belief as our school that by ensuring our children can revisit their previous learning, they are able to develop a deeper understanding of the skills and processes for individual curriculum areas. This commitment enables our children to fully understand what it means to be a scientist, to be a historian or how to be a geographer.

Ultimately our full and engaging curriculum, with its excellent range of experiences, ensures that all of our children are given the opportunity to flourish as we adhere to fulfil our commitment and pledge to our key belief that together we achieve.
